Systematics of staphylinoid beetles

The meat of my thesis: using morphology and molecular data to elucidate phylogenetic relationships within the family Leiodidae. Current projects: review of the monotypic genus Agyrtolasia; revision of the genus Agyrtodes, a large and plesiomorphic "clade" of Camiarinae found in Australia, New Zealand, and Chile.

Beetle diffraction gratings

The potatoes of the thesis (i.e., the delicious, starchy part): an ongoing investigation of diffraction gratings in Coleoptera. This little-known mechanism of beetle iridescence shall not go unheeded, if I have anything to say about it. By gum.
