Seriously, please, don't make fun of me...
Or is this a sly trick to bring motivation? [:

In any case thank you all for the kind comments, now please someone draw something and push this off the main page, it's embarassing...

I'm new to the Oekaki thing, so... Hi. I've just recently got a tablet, and I just wanted to get something drawn out to help me get used to it, and I guessed there was no better time to get associated with this stuff as well. This is... Kinda myself on my computer.
sankyu 2006/12/26 - 21:30:48
You look hungry, I have some fishheads outside.... oh er.. welcome and good luck :D
lorelai 2006/12/27 - 13:37:21

A sketch for the sketch corner. I didn't had any real inspiration :)!
lorelai 2006/12/27 - 13:39:44
*waves* HELLOES =D
heehee. actually I like this one a lot, i think it's a lot cleaner and polished than most of your other oekakis. sometimes I feel my best works are the ones that were just doodled with nothing in mind.

Found some random picture of Tilda Swinton in a magazine... didīnt turn out as I wanted it to, though -.- But I still like it, for some reason : )
lorelai 2006/12/19 - 11:17:51
AUGH!!! IT REMINDS ME OF...of...daarn it, something I can't seem to put my finger on. Maybe a style or a certain picture. Anyhow, love the earth tones. My brain can't seem to decide if they are warm or cold. They seem to be either, depending on point of view. :) super awesome!
sabii 2006/12/19 - 11:20:8
i like how soft the hair feels.. and full of volume c:
ryoanna 2006/12/19 - 19:4:19
Neat.. I love the grey tones in this :3
elolinon 2006/12/20 - 4:22:22
Heh, yeah ^^ I thought of a more blue/cold-looking palette first, but I still wanted it to look warm. I really like Jadi's style in the Narnia movie.
clua 2006/12/26 - 5:12:28
thats--simply beautiful!!

Just practicing....spamming is more like it. I'm trying to get the shading concept down better ....hope nobody minds. :) Any and all tips on shading would be muchlt appreciated :) thanks
mika 2006/12/18 - 15:20:40
I'm probably not the best for advice on shading as I like to manipulate it to get an odd look........but what the hell I'll give it a go anyway:-
First when shading an object you have to know where your lightsource is, in this case it would seem to be off to the left and fairly low like headheight, secondly is the main lightsource the only light, if it is then anything in shadow will be really dark -down to black almost.....I say almost as most of the time there will be reflected or passive light at the back too, look at the shadow on your hand in a window or direct sunlight and you'll see it's quite a contrast.....the Sun goes behind a cloud (diffuses) and suddenly the contrast lessens (this is because the main lightsource and passive light are much closer in luminence)......
So more active light and less passive light means much more contrast in those shadows.....
Lower the difference in active/passive light and lower the contrast in those shadows......

It also helps to break down various areas into seperate parts, go for the head as a whole without the bits stuck to it, then think about all the bits after, if you take the pic you have done you'll see the shadow on the head roughly runs down from the center of the top to the back of the jawline, which would put the ear mostly in shadow....only the extremities of the ear would appear light, the hi-lights on the cheek should be moved slightly up and foreward to between the eye and mouth area....think of the cheek as you did the head, the lightsource is the same for both so it should follow roughly the same shading/hi-lights....

An easy way to practice is think of a round ball sitting on a surface, now shade it......it's easy, now imagine someone came along and prodded a dimple in it's surface....how would it now look? (use plasticine and a table lamp as refs).......add a few simple bits and study how they affect the whole.......
Errrr ok I seem to have written a book so I'll stop before I go overboard....but yeah practice and observation are your mentors here....erm yeah *runs off*

mika 2006/12/18 - 15:26:57
I find them irritating to say the least....especially when they haven't got the right clothes for that stunning disco look that evades me on all doll sites..............Errrrrrrrr I meant what's a pixel doll?
blacklight 2006/12/22 - 13:17:59
