Well. This was gonna be a picture for the theme room (theme being the magnolia tree, representing where I grew up) - but after working on it for two days my computer crashed and I just don't have the fortitude to redo it all. So... off to the sketch corner with it. :)
artanis 2007/12/19 - 19:49:54
Ummm. Hm. [link] latest screen cap.

Sorry for the blank post, mods and Lorelai, you guys are more than welcome to delete this!!
maemay 2007/12/20 - 9:48:57
Oh that was beautiful. It's a shame it didn't show up on here.
lorelai 2007/12/21 - 14:8:29
Well thank goodness you screencapped it. Always always always a good practice cuz it just seems oekaki applets are an imperfect thing. :( It's gorgeous!!
lorelai 2008/2/4 - 15:0:33
Just FYI, i put a note in to dormando to restore this so people can browse it on the oekaki (and i can inevitably consider it for hall of fame it later, cuz I know i want to!)
lorelai 2008/2/5 - 9:54:55
Restored and moved to Polished Room! Beautiful work!
lorelai 2008/2/5 - 9:56:3
Oops just read you meant for it to be in the theme room. I'm all for that! :)
bananarana 2008/2/26 - 13:10:41
It's a shame that you lost this picture, especially after seeing all the hard work you put into it. It's still beautiful, nonetheless. : )
artanis 2008/3/5 - 20:54:15
thank you lorelai :)

Theme? Tree(s) in the distance. Okay, after a month-plus of working with oekaki, I found 3 things that annoyed me to no end.

3, no smudge tool...smudge and drag in real life, like with a pallet knife or a dry brush?!
2, variable brush sizes...if I got this, smudge would be less of a concern.
1, Each tool has it's own individual TEXTURE selections, I don't like. When one is on the roll and decide to switch brushes, the new brush has it's own TEXTURE selected from a previous use. This annoys me...having reallize someting is not looking right, UNDO, selecting the propper texture and continue where I left off.... broke my concentration.

I think it's bad design.

Anyways, this is my...8th attempt at this picture. The first several resulted in crashed browser sessions. It was on a differnt oekaki. I had 3 attempts on here, taco.

Why background? I needed to increase my experience with background. Why this? It was easy...watching Bob Ross (search Youtube?) and his 'happy trees' when I was tiny, I got some shows 'recored' in the back of my mind, hoping to actually play with oil someday. So, here is its: My happy trees!

thank you
elolinon 2007/12/17 - 11:14:1
Wow, really amazing water :D It looks so ... shiny!
happywaterbottle 2007/12/17 - 18:5:15
yeah the water is awesome :D
well the whole pic is awesome!

I really like this. Like, a lot. I know what you mean about each individual texture, but I don't work with textures a whole lot so I don't find it that much of an inconvience, but I can see how it would be. Regardless, this looks exquisite.

happy little trees :) Yeah I have that same problem with textures.

"Redemption:(theme-room-Connect the Dragon)Picture of me Digging up the roots of my giant redwood tree, because it has root-rot":(I am trying to redeem my poor tree, cause I found this root-rot,with a white line around the base, and rotten wood;so,I'm digging it all away,as evening approaches;I have to call the Lane County Extension-Gardeners,or even an "arborist"(tree specialists)cause I do NOT WANT TO LOSE MY GIANT REDWOOD TREE.AUGGGH. I suspect already, that it has a fungus from the cat-shit I found around it's base.I have to get info and advice, but I bet the ferral cats on my place(which I am getting rid of)put cat-shit on the base of the tree, and infected it. Shit. Redemption is the theme, too,as I am trying to redeem the tree, cause I let the damn cats live here, and do this. That makes it my fault. Ha. Try to do a good deed, keep someone's cats on your place for them, and this happens. A lesson to all those who allow ferral(wild)cats to roam around your neighborhood: GET rid of them. I had a lot of trouble with the sketch,I am not longer the best of painters, still have tendonitus, can't lots of hours on work anymore.

Also, I just noticed, I have a tendency to use too much force on keyboards,a too heavy touch, maybe I better watch that and lighten up on all my computer touch;maybe I am too heavy handed, and that is causing me trouble overall, with tendonitus and interaction with mouses, drawing, ect. Me,the heavy hand. That heavy touch could cause trauma, I guess.Never noticed it before. oww. So,I've been pounding the keys and the mouses too much??How light is this keyboard?Maybe better get a much lighter touch board??Duh?Is it getting old??Any experts know,do you get a very light touch keyboard, to help this?Gettin too old?Do they get too less light, with age?Need to be cleaned??Any experts on how to lighten up your hardware touch,so you reduce your impact, and not get this trauma?Seems it used to be a much lighter touch, not so now. Now,I just seem to pound, which is not good.Duh. Call me stupid with hardware.Better talk to my computer repairman, huh? He could get me lightening-up-touch equipment?Or adjust or clean it??Yeah, let's hear from you tech-touch experts, out there, on how to reduce force on the mouse and keyboard??(I use a touch pad now.) anyhow, wish this drawing was better , my trees deserve that respect; I'm going to get it well, though, or die with it.As for the other(?)subject of love,I love my trees. Very much. Oregonian. (my state.)That connects the Dragon; there is other kinds of love besides human to human;love of nature, too. Thanks! :)
eraserhead 2007/10/15 - 9:38:35
Stare at the center of the tree in the pic and eventually the square around it becomes a hole into the dimension the tree lives in, you'll know when you are there as you are no longer bound by the 2d medium - which of course is very cool.

Had major probs with C.T.S myself, resolved it by using the mouse with the hand slightly lifted to one side - odd at first but it eventually becomes second nature, it stops the pressure on the Carpel Tunnel which carries all those nerves which don't like being squidged, as for a lighter keyboard touch try resting the fleshy part of the hand on something like a necklace case when you type - I use one for paint brushes and it is a godsend for long keyboard sessions and keeps the hand above the k/b which lightens the touch ;)

maemay 2007/10/16 - 14:28:0
That is amazing to me. The texture and everything. I love your style so much. I wish i could do this.
odyssey 2007/11/22 - 4:30:58
Have you thought about urinating around the tree? It marks the area and may (or may not) help keep animals away. It's an old folk advice for people lost or camping in wilderness. Wild animals may keep away. Also... There is a revention from (not quire related) inscet burrowing... It's suppose to be a mixture of Jipsom (SP?), sheet rock/dry wall sheet material and some stuff... Apply this slury around the base of the tree. It keeps inscet away. Maybe cats and fungus, too? Zinc (the metal) is an anti mold/anti fungus treatment. Newspaper ink contains zinc. Redemption (tree, too?) is the theme? Interesting.... must grok upon this while avi is being converted to quicktime.

"All I wanted"
the kanji on the hand reads redemption. The hand it supposed to be streching upward as if reaching out.

Great picture of hand,too,good anatomy;nice effects;altogether,nice picture.

All is love and love is all.

Obviously related to the ongoing theme of love. I took way to long on it!

A bit into the meaning; the warm colors were meant to emphasize how brilliant and bold love is...as for the patterns, love completes everything and when in love all else disappears where lovers stand in their own world. Which were hopefully shown symbolically through the circular flow of design. And portrayed with my inseparable; Drunken Roel and Sweet Melody.

Enjoy!! <3

That hair is so freakin' awesome. @A@ YOU ROCK.
happywaterbottle 2007/8/9 - 22:9:54
Awww so pretty!! I love their expressions and the hair - it's so nicely done!
and that background! God you are patient!
I am reminded of Moulin Rouge, even if I never really saw the movie, yay!
lorelai 2007/8/16 - 17:57:7
LOVE the hair!!! @_@ and the background!!
dorothyblueeyes 2007/9/26 - 1:16:49

bananarana 2007/11/29 - 22:9:37
I have to wonder why no one has commented on this piece yet. I love the contrast of the mahogony and the bright iridescent blue. The style is very impressionistic. Good use of colors, good eye for shades and lighting, good figures as well--overall, a very nice piece!
bananarana 2007/12/5 - 17:37:46
I just realized that the duo in this picture are the same two in dorothyblueeye's picture below. That just makes me love this even more.
embo 2008/6/19 - 18:42:56
indeed, the color combination in this is really rustic and charming

"Back-Against-Back:Lovers at War". This one started out,I did not know exactly how to show the couple fighting.Wanted them DARK,for their argument, anger. But I wanted the dark shade to be HOT,because they are still in love;that's why the anger.(so,dark orange.)The part where they are joined, the backs(shoulders)is also the part they put up AGAINST each other;and that is where they have their love(red hot, plum, dark red, burgandy shades)and the white, for spiritual love.
I was trying to show,in colors, and line, how people in love put that love AGAINST each other(backs)in anger, because that is what joins them, and is also why they fight.

It's just the "love-hate" concept, you all know it. It's a very clumsy picture, the way it's done.I am sure not a perfect artist. But,I liked the concept.
sabii 2007/6/20 - 7:14:24
i think you've managed to make it look rather like paint
i like the colours
maemay 2007/6/20 - 10:9:3
That's amazing. Ireally love the pic and the concept. I only wish i could think of something like that.
kaira 2007/6/25 - 3:40:2
The feel of this picture is amazing. It totally does the concept justice. Awesome symbolism. ^^
jakusama 2007/6/25 - 11:40:51
Awww I really like this! I agree, its very paint-like and I think your color choice is fantastic! I love the concept and wish I could come up with something that cool. Very very nice!
lorelai 2007/6/27 - 18:27:30
Wow, i'd call this one of your best works!
mitsu 2007/6/29 - 22:39:6
Ahhh, that glow is really striking; it drew me in from the thumbnail to see what all the awesome was about. I appreciate the sense of texture going on here, and the colors are right nifty.
bananarana 2007/7/12 - 8:17:54
I think out of all the pictures I have seen you done, this is by far my favorite. I love your description for it; I keep reading it over and over and thinking how perfectly it fits with this piece. Great job.
rae 2007/7/12 - 11:57:28
this is great because the story you're trying to tell really shows instantly~ it's just nice to look at too. ^^
candy_bird 2007/7/19 - 23:6:41
love the effect of the colors, from the neutral browns and greys to symbolic reds and whites. :D just beautiful!

*it's up to you to decide*
ok, i know this makes no sense, but i thought little girls arguing would be some what original. i have managed to make the colours dirty, how i do not know, but eh. never mind. i know its scrappy but i just don't care; i haven't posted anything in AGES
golden 2007/6/17 - 13:28:23
eh, do you really think anyone cares if the colors are "dirty"? xD this is gorgeous anyway. the arms of the middle girl are somewhat long though..
embo 2007/6/17 - 20:31:45
the colors aren't dirty, they are just a little unsaturated. I personally like the color scheme. it really exemplifies the expressions of all the characters. nice usage of lights and darks. :]
dorothyblueeyes 2007/6/19 - 4:3:6
See,that is why YOU can paint,and I cannot;not really.Somehow that training, or talent,you got,and I do not.

What the hell,it never makes any money,I am sure sorry I did not get an MB in Business, and let this art lie for a hobby,on Sundays. It never made my life happy.I made myself happy, but everything else sucked.Money changes everything.
laurie-kay 2007/7/14 - 20:34:48
I love the expressions. <3

"back to you" I just got a new graphics card for my computer so I have no idea what the colors on this look like to other people. Let me know if you like it or not.
jazzy92105 2007/6/11 - 21:29:57
its alright, just the black line makes it look less real. try making it a darker skin shade instead of black? fade the neck and shoulders like you did with the backstructure. other than that, it looks pretty good. :)
elolinon 2007/6/17 - 12:59:53
Ooh... i love it :) So simple but, still beautiful.
