So I guess I must accept that this is finished and stop changing it. I'm not really satisfied because I had a picture in my mind and I couldn't put it down just as I had imagined. I just don't want to continue working on it. I've spent many, many hours trying to get it right. I lost it at one poin, but was able to recover, that's why the time isn't right.
This is supposed to be Cecelia, 13, the youngest of the Lisbon girls, from the book The Virgin Suicides.
She seemed a very interesting character to me, even though she died very soon in the book. She always wore an atique wedding dress, and had the look of someone possessed, careless yet determined with an eerie smile playing on her face. I did my best to give her that expresion, but she just looks half asleep and emotionless. eh. And she doesn't look like the Cecelia that I had imagined. I want to see the film now (yes, there is one) but I want to draw all five of the sisters before I see it and ruin my imagination.
And I am no good at indoor shading, i'm just too used to a very strong light source.... too much painting in the sun :c + i need to work on values
sabii 2006/9/14 - 10:29:31
ops. polished room, please xc
elolinon 2006/9/14 - 12:15:49

I love the details in her face - the expression, her nose, her lips...
Her clothes are also very well done :) Nice colors as well. Keep up the good work :D

bandersnatchsm 2006/9/15 - 13:40:2
Woah... Dood!! Those clothes are just so... they are... real? The focus and the way it does that curvy like 3D thing where it is all shiny with the gold and the casting shadows and... I can't communicate effectively. That's how good this is.
heavenlystrike 2006/9/16 - 13:14:35

na
elolinon 2006/8/17 - 8:7:56
Phew... this took quite a while to make xDD But as you can see in the animation , I changed the picture several times. For once, Im more satisfied with the background than with the figure xD
remi-187 2006/8/17 - 9:34:54
I really don't comment here.
Although clearly your face doesn't match the backround, the backround has PLENTY of potential as a really good painting by itself.

That said if you'd like to add a face to match the backround, you should remember that the enviroment/backround affects the coloring of the face, shading and reflections on the sides facing the sun, and most importantly with the sun behind the face - the face will be MUCH darker than the one you really did.

Short version:
REALLY nice and+yet simple backround.
cute face, but looks amaturish and in comparison to your backround and has no place here. (my 2 rare cents, you deserve them)
sabii 2006/8/17 - 9:37:42
Very pretty! I like how the character fits into the background well. I like the colours too c:
blacklight 2006/8/17 - 10:58:32
that's really pretty, It reminds me of Mulan!
golden 2006/8/17 - 11:1:28
Wohoo, you've posted! :D Really nice picture, I love the background most of all. Although I have to say that it doesn't look like your style very much..
elolinon 2006/8/17 - 11:24:51
thanks everyone :D No, this is the first oekaki Ive been doing for a very long time. Youre absolutely right on the point that the character doesnt fit the background. When I started I had no idea how it was going to end up. Guess Ill try better next time :D Thanks, anyway ^^
lorelai 2006/8/17 - 13:6:21
Beautiful. :)
lorelai 2006/8/18 - 9:29:10
Seeing as you have two pictures in the Drawing Room (no you didn't break any rules) I thought i'd move ONE of your two fabulous pictures to a spot it deserves in the Polished Room :)
elolinon 2006/8/18 - 9:35:55
Thanks :D Im quite new here, so I dont really know the difference between all the rooms :P Is there a description somewhere? I looked in the rules, but I didnt find anything x
Thanks anyway :) I like this oekaki ^^
happywaterbottle 2006/8/18 - 12:50:52

lorelai 2007/3/28 - 12:55:8
Hall of Fame'd on March 28, 2007. I think this was one of your best, and plus, the animation was more interesting than most =D
elolinon 2007/3/29 - 12:12:24
Wow, thanks :D Now when I look back at this one I see many things that could have been done better, but it's fun because it was one of my first pictures at rydia. :) Always nice to see how you've improved over the time, when you look at your old pics : )

blacklight 2006/7/8 - 7:14:41
that's one cool puppet, and the reddish eyes are spooky!
lorelai 2006/7/10 - 10:37:12
I was curious, why do you call her a geisha? what are her geisha qualities?
phil 2006/7/10 - 13:22:24
i pictured her life size on stage dancing wiv a parasolin a komodo in her past before she was dumped and abandoned in disrepair
treespirit 2006/7/14 - 8:29:20
Wow, this is my favorite of yours so far. ^_^ I just love the hole in her chest. Really, really cool.

Alas, contrast is very low. Hopefully y'all can make out some of the detail. C&C would be lovely!
z 2006/6/12 - 22:14:29
I think that all of the colors flow very well together, and I love the composition.

The only problems I have are with the lack of hard detailing on the lavender items; they all seem a bit too soft to me.

Also her shoulders don't seem quite wide enough.

Other than that, this is probably one of the most pleasing things I have ever looked at. Good work.
lorelai 2006/6/13 - 11:1:54
Oh wow, she's absolutely gorgeous..and GREAT color use!!
heavenlystrike 2006/6/13 - 12:18:52
how beautiful...wow im really stunned, she looks like an angel...<3 everything is so soft and nice...I adore your style :3
ryoanna 2006/6/13 - 16:59:14
very nice.. luv the lips, the eyes and the hair:) great job
mitsu 2006/6/14 - 7:43:10
Woo, now this is a (delightful) surprise! I <3 the softness and subtlety; it matches her face so perfectly. Very sweet. Mmm, I could just eat that hair up. `3`
joy 2006/6/14 - 13:11:53
beautiful!!! i adore the blue lineart
artistmonkey 2006/6/14 - 17:5:45
wow. that is so pretty and elegant. i think it's just beautiful. :3 icy and ethereal and whatnot. way cool.
phil 2006/6/16 - 13:11:31
have no idea y i havent commented sooner maybe im lazy but im totally in love wiv her eyes and hair and the lightness of the details i could go on...
lorelai 2006/10/25 - 9:32:6
Hall of Fame 10/25/06 :)
senobdec 2006/11/1 - 22:19:9
other than what z has mentioned:
--- her right cheek seems too.. high, although the very light shading on her left cheekbone may be "equal" - it just seems like the right cheekbone should be less prominent, and a little more flesh before curving towards the point of the chin (widen the jaw-line on her right).
dorothyblueeyes 2006/11/30 - 16:12:39
It has this "nostalgia" type feeling and look, like an old picture, very effective. Well, the head is a little big for the shoulders, maybe. Tough without a real model, isn[t it? I hate that, I need to start using models again, sigh, too.
happyrobotgirl 2007/1/25 - 0:48:32
gorgeous. Love the soft, delicate feel of this picture.
